Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a ‘nose job’, is surgery on the nose to change its shape or improve its function. It can be done for medical reasons, such as to correct breathing problems related to the nose or correct disfigurement resulting from trauma or birth defects.
It can also be done for cosmetic reasons, which will change the nose’s shape and appearance.

It can also be done for cosmetic reasons, which will change the nose’s shape and appearance.
Eligibility Criteria
An ideal candidate for Rhinoplasty is one who is in general good health, a non-smoker with a positive disposition and realistic expectations of what the surgery can achieve.
It takes between 90 minutes and 3 hours depending on what needs to be done.
Patient’s go home with a splint on their nose and nasal packs.
Please pay careful consideration to the following:
- You must avoid consuming alcohol for a week prior to the procedure.
- You must not take anything that may thin your blood in the two weeks prior to the procedure.
- You must not eat or drink the night before the procedure.
This includes the following:
- Anything with aspirin such as Grandpa, Anadin, Dispirin, some cold and flu medications and combination pain killers. You may take Panado.
- All multi vitamins, vitamin supplements, omegas, fish oils and green tea.
- Anything from a health shop.
The above is to ensure that your blood clots normally.
After the procedure, you are taken back to the ward.
- Patients are seen by day 5 post-op and the dressing is changed and the splint removed by day 10.
- The patient needs to use the ice packs almost continuously for the first 5 days as this significantly reduces the swelling.
- There might be slight bruising and some discomfort.

- As with all operations there is a small risk of wound healing problems, skin necrosis and injury to facial nerves.*
