Eligibility Criteria
The ageing process varies from person to person depending on your genes, environmental condition, stress and smoking. A facelift aims to rejuvenate your face and I can perform it together with an eyelid/browlift and fat transfer.
A facelift cannot change your fundamental appearance. An ideal candidate for a facelift is one who is in general good health, a non-smoker with a positive disposition and realistic expectations of what the surgery can achieve.
A Facelift is done as a day procedure under sedation with local anaesthetic.
It takes between 3 and 4 hours depending on what needs to be done.
Most commonly the eyelids, mid face, jowls and neck are operated on.
Patient’s go home with a big bandage around the head with antibiotics, painkillers and instructions on ice to the face.
Please pay careful consideration to the following:
- You must avoid consuming alcohol for a week prior to the procedure.
- You must not take anything that may thin your blood in the two weeks prior to the procedure.
- You must not eat or drink the night before the procedure.
This includes the following:
- Anything with aspirin such as Grandpa, Anadin, Dispirin, some cold and flu medications and combination pain killers. You may take Panado.
- All multi vitamins, vitamin supplements, omegas, fish oils and green tea.
- Anything from a health shop.
The above is to ensure that your blood clots normally.
After the procedure, you are taken back to the ward.
- The next day, in the rooms the compression bandage is removed and replaced with a more convenient elasticated face garment and further instructions on cleaning.
- The patient needs to use the ice packs almost continuously for the first 5 days as this significantly reduces the swelling.
- There will be bruising and some pain and discomfort.
- The average downtime is around 10-14 days.*
